Still a tragedy in the Channel of Sicily: thirty migrants – the exact number still do not know – are dead, perhaps by asphyxiation in a barge that was rescue in the night by a ship of the Italian Navy.
According to what has been learned, the boat was loaded with more than 600 migrants. When the ship Grecale has reached, for some dozen of them (the number of victims varies between 27 and 30) there was nothing more to do. Crammed into a narrow part of the barge, they died very probably for asphyxiation. The location of the bodies has prevented their immediate recovery: only a couple of corpses were carried on board the military vessel, which is now by escorting the barge from the port of Pozzallo, where it should arrive this morning. Already rescued instead two pregnant women.
